All a flutter

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

I went for another ultrasound today. I was a ball of nerves thinking about our last appointment, but Baby Bean is doing wonderful! Whew! We actually saw our little one today, and tears of joy were brimming in my eyes when I saw the flutters of our baby’s heartbeat. It was one of the best moments of my life! We even got to take home his or her first picture, which is hanging proudly on the fridge until we get a baby book. I think I’ve looked at it (and made other people look at it) at least a million times today. And based on the baby’s size, the doctor said I’m 7 weeks, not 6. So sometime between Sept. 5-14, JD and I will be parents. :) I am beyond excited. We even decided on a girl’s name tonight! (A boy’s name is still under heavy negotiations.) But, we are keeping the name a secret until Baby Bean is born. That’s going to be one hard surprise to keep!

Another thing I’m having a hard time with is morning sickness (a.k.a. starts at 10 a.m. and lasts until I go to bed sickness.) It’s difficult to find foods right now that taste good (other than carbs) and don’t leave me feeling like I just rode a roller coaster 15 times in a row. I managed to make some good food choices for breakfast and lunch, and kept it down.

This was one scrumptious bowl of oats! In the mix was 1/2 cup organic oatmeal, 1 cup water, a dash of salt, 1 tablespoon peanut butter, 1 spotty banana and 2 teaspoons brown sugar. It tasted just like a cookie! My oats kept me full until lunch, which was:

Rotisserie chicken sandwich on double fiber wheat bread with 1.5 teaspoons mayo, handful of organic carrots, a juicy pear and two unpictured dill pickles.

I also ate a bag of Sun Chips — I was super hungry today!

Good food choices went kind of down hill after lunch, starting with giving into a nagging sweet tooth with these:

I met my dear friend, Sara, for dinner tonight at Carraba’s — an Italian restaurant. My first mistake was reaching in to the warm, delicious bread basket. I ate 3 small slices in no time flat! My meal was grilled chicken stuffed with fontina cheese, mushrooms and prosciutto, spicy tomato noodles on the side and a salad. Not too bad, but then, we went over to Ben & Jerry’s and had a small cup of caramel ice cream. So that’s two desserts in one day. Bad me! I know I’ve been slipping on good food choices too much lately, but I am trying in spite of these crazy cravings and aversions to certain things. (i.e. I can’t stand the sight or smell of cooked vegetables. Odd!)

I’ve already set the alarm to get up early to work out. Nothing like getting the day started on the right foot, no?

Have a great Thursday, guys!
