Excuses, excuses

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

I talked myself out of exercising tonight. Well, I guess I should say I nixed working out this morning first for a few extra minutes of sleep, then proceeded to put on gym clothes when I got home from work and promptly fell asleep on the couch. Sigh.

Just a month ago, I looked forward to my daily sweat sessions. I pushed myself more and more everyday. I was proud of seeing the slight curve of muscle in my arms and legs, and clothes starting to hang a bit. But since finding out I was pregnant, I feel like I find a million excuses to lay around. My pants are getting tighter in the waist, and I feel more flabby these days. Me no likey!

I’m not going to be too hard on myself. Everyone tells me the first trimester is the hardest physically and emotionally, and that I will feel more like my old self when I hit 12 weeks. But considering that is 7 weeks away, I’ve got to push past the nausea and fatigue and get exercising more than 2 days a week (my average these days). I know it will help me feel better, and will do wonders for the baby. So here’s my plan of action:

1. Workout in the morning. There’s no way around it. Nausea sets in around 10:30 a.m. and lasts the rest of the day most days, so if I get my bones out of bed and get it over with early, I won’t feel too tired or sick and not workout at night. I did get up early yesterday and jumped on the elliptical, and felt a lot better the rest of the day!

2. Set an exercise goal. I ultimately want to get in at least 30 minutes of exercise every day, but for now, I’ll be happy with 5 days a week. I got my pregnancy workout DVDs in the mail, so that will help give me some variety during the winter months.

3. Reward myself. If I get in my 5 workouts in a week, then I get a little prezzie. A pair of hot shoes, new makeup…something to keep me going until I get back into a routine.

While exercise needs some work, food is no problem right now. :) I’ve been tracking my calories in Babyfit.com, although I basically have to force the 2,000 calories down because I have zero appetite. Veggies are still disgusting to me, but I’m eating them anyway! :)

Well, that’s all I have, friends. I know I’ll get through this. Maybe not tonight, since my eyes are half shut writing this, but as Scarlett O’ Hara says, “Tomorrow is another day!” (P.S. Gone With the Wind is one of the greatest movies of all time, if you have 6 hours to spar to watch it. Ha!)

And I want to know: How do you recharge when you just don’t feel like working out? I could use some tips!
